Notes from last year’s Karnu Rally:

After a wet and wild ‘Kudlila Rally’ last year, it’s back but hopefully at a warmer and drier time of year! A few route changes including Bundaleer forest and further north into the Flinders Ranges as the long option. It has been renamed ‘Karnu Rally’. Karnu being the Kaurna translation for mountain seeing the route traverses a large portion of the Flinders Ranges.

This is an unsupported bikepacking event from the River Torrens/Karrawirra Parri to the Spencer Gulf in Port Augusta winding from the Adelaide Hills to the Flinders Ranges using some segments of the Mawson Trail while making the most of Spring Gully conservation park, Mount Remarkable national park, Ikara-Flinders Ranges national park and Yappala Indigenous protected area.

2 suggested route options, these are drafts. Route suggestions welcome.

1,150 km – https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38708761

Suggested leave time 6.30am in front of the Torrens boat sheds, 1st of October 2022.

I acknowledge the ride passes through the traditional lands of Kaurna, Ngadjuri, Nukunu, Banggarla and Andyamathanha people. I would like to pay my respects to elders past, present and future.

Tracking registration will be on Maprogress at some point.

This is Simon’s own ride that he’s created and will be doing this when it suits him, if anyone else wants to come along and have the ride tracked on the same page that is up to them and their own preparations. It’s your ride if you want to come along and you should research the route and what you need to get by safely. There are very remote sections with no water or phone reception and if there is rain some of the tracks will be impassable which could leave you stranded. If this concerns you and you don’t feel confident with it this might not be a bike ride for you. Turn up if you want, ride some or all of it, tracked or untracked, it doesn’t really matter to me but might make it more fun.

Here’s a journal entry about the previous edition of the Kudlila Rally.
