Bikepacking Trip to Valentines Hut

This trip was one of many that we made in preparation for our lives changing as we became parents.
We had done a few other bits and pieces around the Canberra and Snowy Mountains region but this particular trip was a bikepacking ride up to Valentines Hut.
Valentines Hut Campout
At this point, we were four months pregnant and we just wanted to visit the hut again, camp out by the river and feel some cold on our skin.
It would be one of the last times it was just the two of us, before two became three.
I don’t like to buy too much ultra specific gear, so I just used my really old canvas Mont hiking pack. Wearing that, I rode my mountain bike up the trail which was less than ideal because it was super top heavy. But I still made it and it was pretty fun and it was very relaxed.
The skies were super clear overnight and I was able to take some great photos.
It was also really cold, much colder than I had actually been prepared for. All the usual things happened, like all of my water freezing over night!
The morning routine was a bit slower, but it was a very memorable trip.
This trip will be one of the things we can look back on with our daughter in the future and point at these photos and say: “Look, you were there before you even existed.”
